KPI IN THE SPOTLIGHT: How to Score a Live TV Interview

Leonie Prendeville

Karl Schwantes Director, Designer, Gemmologist, Diamond Grader and Valuer, as well as ambassador for childrens charity Zig Zag has more than just a sparkle in his eye when it comes to pitching for speaking engagements (and, actual engagements, come to that.)

In fact, through dedicated preparation and persistence, Karl bagged himself a live TV interview on the Today Show in Perth.

Launching his dazzling new book Rock her World next month, Karl is rapidly making his mark as the go to guy for dream engagement ring designs that truly capture the wow factor.

Here, he tells us all about his glistening KPI journey, on securing that diamond TV interview, and how he ensures his pitches receive an I do every time.

The first thing I did was look for an ideal partnership to help leverage my message to a greater audience, I wanted to start developing contacts now for my new book launch in February.

I contacted the company Media Stable and pitched a range of different subjects I could speak about, specifically my expertise in the engagement ring market. Within a couple of weeks the Today Show in Perth asked if I would do an interview with them!

I prepared myself as much as possible in the short time I had, I wanted to ensure I came across as professional and helpful and not too cheesy after all, on live television you only get one shot.

After it all I made sure I followed up with the producer, asking him for valuable feedback and pitching him a second story that they could use in the future.

KARLS TIP: When pitching to media look to position yourself as the expert who is able to comment on interesting trends within your industry.

How long does it take to complete KPI?

The programme is built around a 12-month foundation year. This is the time it takes to build your full authority ecosystem. From there, many clients continue to compound their results year on year. Within 24 hours of joining, you'll get full access to the KPI platform. In your first week, you'll attend a group onboarding session where you'll learn how to navigate the platform, access your resources, subscribe to our event calendars, and book into your first Value Canvas Kickoff.

How long has Dent been doing this?

Over 5,500 businesses across 60+ industries in EMEA, the Americas, and Asia-Pacific have gone through our accelerators.

What is your mission?

Our mission is to produce Key People of Influence who stand out, scale up, and make an impact in the world.

What makes this different from programmes?

The biggest difference is that KPI is a production environment, not a course. You don't watch videos and hope something sticks. You build 15-17 real assets of influence — your book, your scorecard, your productised offer, your lead generation system — in structured 10-day sprints with live coaching. Every asset goes to market as you build it. Real feedback, real results, real revenue impact. And you're doing it alongside 5,500+ founders who've been through the same methodology.

Is Daniel Priestley involved in the programme?

Yes! Daniel is our CEO and Cofounder. He is one of the key minds behind every aspect of the KPI Accelerator. He occasionally runs workshops himself.
