KPI IN THE SPOTLIGHT: How This Naturopath Is Turning Heads on Mainstream Media

Leonie Prendeville

Naturopath, Nutritionist and Author of Get Well, Stay Well: Reclaim your health and get back to living,Katherine Maslen is nurturing her business constantly by grabbing lots of media appearances.

The Founder of Brisbanes leading wellness centre, Brisbane Natural Health, Katherine helps people to reclaim their health so they can get back to living a life they love, and shes been spreading her message to the masses with her recent appearance on 612ABC.

Naturally, we wanted to know Katherines techniques to scoring the medias attention, so here she shares her experience:

TELL US THE NITTY GRITTY, HOWD YOU DO IT?

I had been on the morning show before so I had the contact of the producer, but she had now moved on so I obtained the email address for the mornings program and emailed them a press release about my book. I also posted them a hard copy with the press release in a letter too and I received an email the same week saying that they would love if I could come and talk about the book on the show.

THIS ISNT THE FIRST TIME YOUVE SCORED MEDIA ATTENTION WHERE ELSE HAVE YOU BEEN FEATURED?

I have been on 612ABC once before as well as Fairfax radios 2UE and 4BC. I have also been on several small community radio stations, which I found excellent to practice my media skills on. Last year I was on the Perth Today Show as well, which was another big win!

WHAT MADE THE BIGGEST DIFFERENCE TO BEING NOTICED BY THE MEDIA?

Id have to say that actually getting out there and making contact has made the biggest difference. It doesnt work all the time but I have had several of my own press releases picked up by the media. I also have the help of the guys at Media Stable who give me a platform to get my message out there.

WHATS YOUR FAVOURITE P (PITCH, PUBLISH, PRODUCT, PROFILE OR PARTNERSHIPS) AND WHY?

Can I pick two? Its hard to choose between publish and profile because they go so well together. I love the bigger platform of the media and also love that so many people are able to live a healthier life after reading my book.

WHY DO YOU LOVE WHAT YOU DO?

I love being able to inspire other people to live a healthier life. I truly believe that great health is needed to live a happy and fulfilled life and I love seeing the transformation in people. I also love creating new things businesses, products, books the dynamic nature of what I do keeps me in love with my work.

WHAT DOES BEING A KEY PERSON OF INFLUENCE MEAN TO YOU?

It means being able to have a clear message that others want to listen to. It means being able to make real change on a mass level to enhance the lives of others.

WHAT IS THE MOST SIGNIFICANT DIFFERENCE ABOUT YOUR APPROACH TO BUSINESS NOW, COMPARED TO BEFORE YOU BECAME A KEY PERSON OF INFLUENCE?

Clarity. For me pitch was perhaps the biggest thing. Being clear on why I do what I do has allowed me to really deep dive in that space and I am very grateful to be in a position where Im completely clear on where I am and where I want to take my business.

WHAT ARE YOUR TOP TIPS FOR OTHERS WANTING TO GET A WIN LIKE YOURS?

  • Get clear. Be clear on your message and what you stand for. Why do you do what you do?

  • Publish! If you havent released your book yet get to it it really is an amazing leveraging tool.

  • Get out there. Write the media release. Call the journalist. They will always be looking for content so make yours worth spreading!

  • Build relationships. Provide consistently good content and the media will be coming to you.

  • Be available. Make sure you answer your phone and check messages when you are chasing media gigs they are usually last minute and you need to be accessible.

How long does it take to complete KPI?

The programme is built around a 12-month foundation year. This is the time it takes to build your full authority ecosystem. From there, many clients continue to compound their results year on year. Within 24 hours of joining, you'll get full access to the KPI platform. In your first week, you'll attend a group onboarding session where you'll learn how to navigate the platform, access your resources, subscribe to our event calendars, and book into your first Value Canvas Kickoff.

How long has Dent been doing this?

Over 5,500 businesses across 60+ industries in EMEA, the Americas, and Asia-Pacific have gone through our accelerators.

What is your mission?

Our mission is to produce Key People of Influence who stand out, scale up, and make an impact in the world.

What makes this different from programmes?

The biggest difference is that KPI is a production environment, not a course. You don't watch videos and hope something sticks. You build 15-17 real assets of influence — your book, your scorecard, your productised offer, your lead generation system — in structured 10-day sprints with live coaching. Every asset goes to market as you build it. Real feedback, real results, real revenue impact. And you're doing it alongside 5,500+ founders who've been through the same methodology.

Is Daniel Priestley involved in the programme?

Yes! Daniel is our CEO and Cofounder. He is one of the key minds behind every aspect of the KPI Accelerator. He occasionally runs workshops himself.
